Ticketing System

Ticketing System

A ticketing system is software that turns customer requests into trackable tickets, then helps a support team categorize, prioritize, assign, and resolve them through a defined lifecycle. It centralizes inquiries from many channels into one queue with status, ownership, and reporting.

Conversational Support & Help Desk

TL;DR

A ticketing system converts support requests into trackable, prioritized, and assignable tickets that move through an open-to-closed lifecycle.

Key Points

A ticket bundles the customer's message with their data and internal metadata used to route, track, and resolve the request [1][3].

Each ticket moves through a lifecycle, with status changing from open to pending to resolved, and reopening if new information arrives [2].

Systems prioritize work by urgency, customer impact, and submission date, with exactly one owner responsible for advancing each issue [2].

Routing, tagging, and automation assign tickets to the best-equipped agent or team, often backed by a [[service-level-agreement]] [1].

A ticketing system underpins a full [[help-desk]] and is closely related to the [[support-ticket]] and [[escalation]] workflows it manages.

Eloqra deliberately omits a ticketing system, using simple Open/Closed [[conversation|conversations]] routed to Telegram instead.

What a ticketing system does

A ticketing system is software that organizes Customer Support requests and automates service tasks by converting inquiries into tickets a team can track and resolve [1]. A single ticket holds the message content, the requester's data, and internal system metadata used to route, track, and monitor the conversation [3]. Inputs arrive from email, chat, web forms, and social channels and are consolidated into one queue, frequently as part of Omnichannel Support. Because each issue is treated as unique, duplicate reports are merged and precisely one person holds formal responsibility for moving an issue forward [2]. This structure distinguishes a ticketing system from an informal Shared Inbox: it adds explicit status, ownership, prioritization, and reporting on top of the underlying messages.

The ticket lifecycle

Tickets follow a defined lifecycle. A technician receives a problem report, verifies it is real, and records the details in a new ticket; updates are logged as work progresses and the status moves from open to pending, then to resolved once the request is fully addressed [2]. If new information emerges, a closed ticket can be reopened [2]. Along the way, systems categorize and prioritize by issue type, urgency, and customer status, then assign the ticket to an agent or team based on expertise and availability [1]. Urgent or stuck tickets trigger Escalation to higher tiers, and timing is often governed by a Service-Level Agreement (SLA). Finally, reporting surfaces metrics such as response and resolution times so teams can improve [1].

How Eloqra differs

Eloqra is a lightweight Live Chat product and deliberately does not include a full ticketing system. There are no ticket numbers, queues, SLAs, tags, or multi-tier assignment. Instead, a Website Visitor starts a Conversation that is simply Open or Closed, with unread counters and first-responder assignment, and operators reply from Telegram over its Telegram Integration. This is a deliberate simplicity tradeoff rather than a missing feature: small teams get fast, low-overhead messaging without configuring the routing, prioritization, and lifecycle machinery that a Help Desk ticketing system provides. Teams that need formal Support Ticket tracking, Escalation tiers, or omnichannel reporting are better served by a dedicated ticketing platform; Eloqra optimizes for immediacy and ease of setup instead.

Support Ticket

A support ticket is a tracked record of a single customer request, capturing the customer's message, their contact details, and internal metadata so a support team can route, prioritize, and resolve the issue. [1] Each ticket carries a unique identifier and a status that reflects where it sits in its lifecycle. [3]

Help Desk

A help desk is a centralized system and team that receives, organizes, and resolves customer or employee support requests, typically using ticketing, automation, and self-service tools to track each issue from first contact to resolution.

Customer Support

Customer support is the set of services and people that help customers use a product effectively and resolve the specific problems they run into, covering everything from installation and troubleshooting to maintenance and upgrades. It is the reactive, product-focused subset of the broader discipline of [[customer-service]].

Conversation

A conversation is the threaded exchange of messages between a single website visitor and a project's operators, grouped as one unit with a status and unread counters. In Eloqra it is the container that holds every message, the visitor's captured context, and the assigned operator.

Escalation

Escalation is the process of moving a customer issue from a first-line agent to someone with more seniority, authority, or specialized expertise when it cannot be resolved at the current level. It routes the conversation to the person best equipped to solve it, rather than leaving it stuck.

Shared Inbox

A shared inbox is a single collaborative workspace where multiple support team members can view, claim, and reply to incoming customer messages from one address or channel, while each person signs in with their own account. It replaces a password-shared mailbox so a whole team can answer customers without stepping on each other.
