Offline Message

Offline Message

An offline message is a message a website visitor sends through the chat widget when no operator is available to reply in real time, captured for asynchronous follow-up once a human is back online. It turns an unattended chat into a lead instead of a missed conversation.

Live Chat Fundamentals

TL;DR

When nobody is around to chat live, the visitor still leaves a message that gets stored and answered later.

Key Points

Offline messages exist because live chat is real time but humans are not always at the keyboard; they let a [[website-visitor]] reach you outside [[business-hours]] without bouncing.

Most tools swap the live composer for an offline form or a short notice that sets expectations, optionally collecting name and email so you can reply by email or in-widget [1][2].

In Eloqra the visitor never sees a hard 'offline' wall: every message is stored against a [[conversation]] and immediately forwarded to the owner via the [[telegram-integration]], so 'offline' really means 'reply when you next open Telegram'.

Eloqra's [[welcome-message]] and the optional offlineMessage text are where you set expectations, and a [[pre-chat-form]] can capture name and email to enable later follow-up.

Because Eloqra relays through Telegram rather than a queue, there is no formal [[ticketing-system]] or [[service-level-agreement]] behind offline messages; the owner just replies and that reply flows back through a [[webhook]].

Setting a clear reply window matters: best-in-class live chat first response is under a minute, but customers tolerate slower email-style replies when you tell them upfront [3].

What an offline message is

Live chat promises instant answers, but operators sleep, take lunch, and work in a single time zone. An offline message is the fallback: when no Support Operator is available, the Live Chat Widget still lets the Website Visitor type something rather than disappear. Vendors implement this in a few ways. Olark can hide the widget, show a static notice, or present an offline form that collects name, email, and the message itself [1]. LiveChat keeps the composer open in asynchronous mode, asks for an email after the first message, and routes the result to an Unassigned-chats view for an agent to pick up [2]. Either way the goal is the same: convert an after-hours visit into a stored, answerable Conversation instead of a lost one.

How offline messages work in Eloqra

Eloqra blurs the online/offline line on purpose. The widget polls over HTTP Polling every few seconds and does not gate the composer behind operator presence, so a visitor can always send a Chat Message. Each message is persisted to its Conversation and pushed to the project owner through the Telegram Integration; the owner replies straight from Telegram and that reply returns to the widget via a Telegram Webhook. There is no separate offline queue or Ticketing System to drain. To shape expectations you configure the greeting Welcome Message and an offline-message string, and you can enable a Pre-Chat Form to grab name and email so you can follow up even if the visitor closes the tab before you answer.

Setting expectations and capturing the lead

The risk with offline messages is the silent wait: a visitor sends something, hears nothing, and assumes the business is dead. Help Scout's benchmarks put best-in-class live chat first response under a minute, with email tolerated at much longer windows, so the fix is to say which you are offering [3]. Use Eloqra's offline-message and welcome copy to state a realistic reply window ('we usually answer within a few hours'), and turn on the Pre-Chat Form so an email is on file. Because the first message already captures page URL, device, and IP-based location on the visitor record, the owner opens the Telegram notification with full context and can reply as a Lead Capture follow-up rather than a cold restart.

Business Hours

Business hours are the configured windows of days and times during which a support team is staffed and expected to answer live conversations. They let a chat tool switch between a live, real-time experience and an after-hours fallback so customers always know whether someone is available.

Welcome Message

A welcome message is the pre-written greeting a live-chat widget shows when a visitor opens it, used to set a friendly tone and prompt the first reply. In Eloqra it is a configurable line of text rendered inside the chat panel before any operator is involved.

Pre-Chat Form

A pre-chat form is a short form shown before a live chat starts that asks the visitor for a small amount of identifying information, typically their name and email. In Eloqra it is the optional collectVisitorInfo step that gates the chat input until the visitor submits their details.

Telegram Integration

Telegram Integration is the mechanism by which Eloqra routes every website chat into the project owner's Telegram, forwarding visitor messages to a Telegram bot and flowing operator replies back to the widget. It turns Telegram into the operator inbox, so there is no separate agent console to keep open.

Conversation

A conversation is the threaded exchange of messages between a single website visitor and a project's operators, grouped as one unit with a status and unread counters. In Eloqra it is the container that holds every message, the visitor's captured context, and the assigned operator.

Lead Capture

Lead capture is the process of collecting a prospect's contact details (typically name, email, or phone) at the moment they show interest, so a business can follow up and move them through the sales funnel. On a website it happens through forms, pop-ups, chatbots, and live-chat conversations.
